Pre Menstrual Tension

Premenstrual syndrome is a group of specific menstrual symptoms are started with before menstrual period. It is known as Premenstrual tension (PMT), it is a combination of emotional, psychological and physical symptoms. Mostly women have experienced some pain during this period. It occurs only few days.

About PMS

PMS Symptoms start with earlier days before every menstrual period. It affects the women up to 30 years old. PMS stopped by women have removed their ovaries. More over all women have few PMS symptoms. But one or two people have very several symptoms. They are seriously interfering with that people life.

Symptoms of PMS

Long lists of symptoms have been followed as well;

  • back or lower abdominal pain
  • breast tenderness
  • depression and anxiety
  • feeling bloated
  • irritability or aggression
  • headache
  • mood swings
  • poor concentration
  • tiredness
  • weight gain

The critical form of PMS is called “Pre Menstrual Dysphonic Disorder (PMDD)”. For an emotional symptoms includes mood swings, tension, depression and anxiety are important serious symptoms of PMS. It will affects a small amount of peoples only.

Causes of PMS

Any one does not know to cause of PMS in correctly, but it may be caused by:

  • Abnormal sensitivity to the hormone cycle - The women have some sensitive to the normal amount of the hormone progesterone exited into the blood during the second half of the menstrual period cycle. If large amount of progesterone released ,you will affect the brain.
  • Lack of Nutrients – Most of the people do not have perfect nutrients and minerals on your blood. So, it will affect easily to weak women. This is one of. the scientific evidence.
  • Generally it is caused by the normal contractions of the uterus muscles during menstrual period.

PMS Diagnosing is based upon the descriptions of the menstrual symptoms occurred to the body. It has identified by no specific tests. It is know by only keep a diary and note it that symptoms for every menstrual cycle. Then you will consult with PMS medical specialists and check with your ovaries and hormone levels.

  • Mineral supplements are helping to relieve most symptoms of PMS, such as Calcium and Magnesium are important minerals to our health.
  • Eating healthy foods, such as fresh fruits and green leaf vegetables and Giving complex carbohydrates foods are providing good health.

2. Medical Remedies

For severe PMS symptoms are relieved by Medical specialists. He suggested the medicines with prescription.

  • Mefenamic acid (e.g. Ponstan) is the best painkiller medicine. It helps to relieve any several painful symptoms. It would be taken for 10 days before that period.
  • The mixed contraceptive pill helps to relief some symptoms. It is limited as prescription point level.
  • A diuretic (water tablet), is used to relieve bloating and breast swelling and tenderness. These are water retention symptoms. For e.g. spironolactone is the best medicine for preventing water retention.
  • Antidepressants otherwise called as Selective-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to help premenstrual dysphonic disorder for women. If you take high dosage, you will have some side effects, such as headaches, nausea and insomnia
